   EDUCATION

   Listening: Understand lecture introductions/main ideas; identify noun phrases. Speaking: Ask and answer questions; prepare for/report on a seminar discussion. Writing: Start the process; generate essay titles; plan writing tasks. Vocabulary: Work out meaning of unknown words.

   WEEK 3

   SYSTEMS

   Academic Focus: Description and definition. Reading: Understand/extract key factual information; recognize/summarize key factual information. Grammar: Use simple definitions (noun phrase (2): Adjective + noun, noun + prepositional phrase).

   Listening: Recognize key factual information in a lecture; recognize definitions. Speaking: Recognize language for referring to visual information; recognize noun phrases in explanations. Writing: Identify language/features of descriptions; write short descriptions of visual information. Vocabulary: Build academic vocabulary.

   COMMUNICATION

   Academic Focus: Cause and effect. Reading: Identify main ideas and supporting evidence; build word families; use adverbs to express stance. Grammar: Use connecting adverbs.

   Listening: Understand the main ideas in a lecture; analyze types of supporting evidence; recognize language for introducing supporting evidence. Speaking: Prepare for a tutorial; read a text to prepare; ask/answer questions. Writing: Analyze and review topic sentences; practice paraphrasing (1).

   Academic Focus: Classification. Reading: Identify the purpose and structure of a text; use linking language to take notes; practice paraphrasing (2). Grammar: Identify noun and verb transformations.

   Listening: Understand the organization of a lecture; recognize/practice signposting language. Speaking: Evaluate presentations; give a short presentation; use signposting language. Writing: Write essay introductions; analyze an essay introduction; write/evaluate a thesis statement. Vocabulary: Classification (categorizing words).

   Academic Focus: Connecting ideas. Reading: Identify the argument and structure of a text; identify cohesive language and hedging language. Grammar: Use modal verbs, verbs, adverbials (cohesion).

    Listening: Understand the main points of a lecture; identify spoken punctuation. Speaking: Discuss and interpret written feedback; respond to suggestions. Writing: Analyze an essay conclusion; use linking ideas coherently; practice coherence (repetition and synonyms). Vocabulary: Collocation (adjective + noun, verb + noun).

    Academic Focus: Describing processes. Reading: Predict content of a text from visual information; describe a process; use language for describing a process (transitive/intransitive verbs). Speaking: Analyze/refer to the structure of a poster; respond to requests for further details; give a short poster presentation. Writing: Analyze descriptive processes; write a paragraph describing a process; use active/passive voice.

    Review & Final Exam

    Consolidate all learning goals from Units 1-6. Demonstrate proficiency in Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Vocabulary at the B2 level for academic contexts.
